Fire Causes Heavy Damage To Long Island Home

A Suffolk County home suffered extensive damage, and a Dix Hills group home had to be evacuated after a fire broke out and quickly spread, fire officials said.

Dozens of firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a Wildwood Drive home shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, officials said. The fire reportedly started in an attached garage before spreading to the main structure.

Approximately 75 firefighters and first responders from Dix Hills, Deer Park, Melville, and Wyandanch helped battle the blaze, which was knocked down within an hour. The Greenlawn and Commack fire departments also offered assistance. The fire was declared under control at approximately 11 p.m. 

It is unclear what caused the fire to break out. No injuries were reported. It is currently being investigated by Suffolk County Police and the Town of Huntington fire marshal. Check Daily Voice for updates.
